Dr. John and the Nite Trippers, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, DUMPSTAPHUNK Headline the Bigger and Better Mystic Blues Festival

Summer Music Festival arrives at the North Stonington Fairgrounds August 12, 13 & 14th

(Mystic, CT)  The Fourth Annual Mystic Blues Festival kicks off Friday August 12 with its unique blend of blues and roots-based music at a new location for 2016.  The Festival will be held at the beautiful North Stonington Fairgrounds, just off of Route 2 in North Stonington, Connecticut.

Headlining the three day Festival are six-time Grammy winner and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member Dr. John and the Nite Trippers, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and DUMPSTAPHUNK featuring Ivan Neville, Ian Neville, Tony Hall, Nick Daniels III & Alvin Ford, Jr.

Also performing this year are Festival favorites Roomful of Blues, Christine Ohlman & Rebel Montez, and Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters.

“We are once again proud to present so many great, nationally recognized musicians at this year’s festival,” said Mystic Blues Festival President Chris Leigh, who along with his wife Amy founded the Mystic Blues Festival. “We are thrilled with our new venue at the North Stonington Fairgrounds which is easily accessible, provides a lot more space for festival goers and has on-site parking.”

The legendary Dr. John is known throughout the world as the embodiment of New Orleans music, with a unique blend of voodoo mysticism, funk, rhythm & blues, psychedelic rock and Creole roots.  Dr. John’s critically acclaimed “Ske-Dat-De-Dat: The Spirit of Satch” is a masterful tribute to Louis Armstrong.  Dr. John and the Nite Trippers can currently be heard in theaters performing “The Bare Necessities” in the Disney box-office smash “The Jungle Book.”

For over 30 years, The Fabulous Thunderbirds have been the quintessential American band.  The group’s distinctive and powerful sound, influenced by a diversity of musical styles, manifested itself into a unique musical hybrid via such barnburners as “Tuff Enuff” and “Wrap it Up.” Co-founder Kim Wilson, the sole original member, still spearheads the group as it evolves into its newest incarnation.

“The addition of The Fabulous Thunderbirds and Dr. John and the Nite Trippers is a real coup for us,” said Leigh. “We’re only in our fourth year, but with this kind of lineup and a new, world-class location, the Mystic Blues Festival is now one of the premier blues and roots-based music festivals in the country.”

The Mystic Blues Festival is a 501 © 3 charitable organization, and provides support to Center for Hospice Care of Southeastern Connecticut (CHC).  ““I am so grateful to Chris and Amy Leigh and the legion of volunteers who make the Mystic Blues Festival a success,” said CHC President and CEO Carol Mahier. “As an organization, we look forward to this annual opportunity to share our mission with the Eastern Connecticut community.  It is so important for individuals and families to know that we are here, and the sooner they reach out to Center for Hospice Care the better it is for their loved one.”

In addition to the professional acts, local student performers and clinicians will be featured on a separate Student Stage. This speaks to the Mystic Blues Festival’s commitment to preserving and promoting blues music and culture through education.
